Helping mega infrastructure developers manage their social impacts and risks effectively.

Bapuleng’s social impact management services changed my perspective as an engineer. This mega infrastructure project is no longer just about engineering—it’s about social dynamics. The real risks lie in the social and community dynamics, and Bapuleng helped us navigate them with insight, empathy, and strategy.”

We understand what it takes to get it right

There are too many consultants out there who think that social management is easy and anyone can do it, regardless of qualifications and experience. This puts projects at risk of delay and vandalism, costing clients and funders more money to get their projects back on track.

Developments by their very nature bring additional money into communities e.g. through CSI projects and contractor spending, and heightened attention through engagements with clients; these have the potential to disrupt relationships within communities and cause socio-political instability. This results in community members jostling for monetary benefits and local opportunists looking for gaps. Bapuleng has qualified social management specialists with experience in the field and who know how to mitigate and manage such dynamics.

Investment / donor funding comes with conditions to ensure that the funding-related activities do not create or enhance negative socio-economic dynamics. The eventuality of such socio-economic challenges must be highlighted when approaching funders. This should demonstrate how measures will be taken to protect their investment (achieved outputs) and leave behind a positive legacy. Bapuleng staff are knowledgeable of international best practices and skilled in aligning social management standards, institutional policies and legislation into comprehensive motivations for funding.
